How do I know how many refills I have left? ›

The prescription label will tell you how many refills you have left. Most labels show a number of refills with a cutoff date. If you refill your prescription before that date, you should be able to place your order with no problem.

Most people refill their prescriptions at a local pharmacy. You may need to choose a pharmacy that's in-network for your health insurance. If you need to refill a prescription, you can call the pharmacy to ask them to fill it. Be prepared with your insurance card, prescription number, medication name, and dosage.

Contacting Your Pharmacy Directly

You can send them an email or call them directly to see what medication they have in stock, and you should be able to collect this the same day. For repeat prescriptions, they may take a little longer, particularly if it isn't your normal pharmacy.

Rite Aid, one of the largest pharmacy chains in the United States, filed for bankruptcy on Sunday, weighed down by billions of dollars in debt, declining sales and more than a thousand federal, state and local lawsuits claiming it filled thousands of illegal prescriptions for painkillers.

In 2015, Walgreens attempted to buy out Rite Aid, in what would have been a $17.2 billion deal. The deal fell through at the time — Walgreens canceled the merger in June 2017 after the Federal Trade Commission refused to approve it, and as a Plan B bought about 42% of Rite Aid's store network for $4.38 billion.

In March, the U.S. Justice Department intervened in a whistleblower lawsuit brought by former employees under the False Claims Act. Federal officials said in a statement that the drugstore chain filled “at least hundreds of thousands” of illegal prescriptions for drugs including opioids.

Using your NHS account

You can order a repeat prescription through your NHS account on the NHS App or NHS website. You can nominate a pharmacy for your GP to send your prescriptions to. Your nominated pharmacy may be able to deliver your medicine to you or let you know when it's ready to collect.
