This free crochet pattern will show you how to make a tiny football, the perfect size for a keychain. These make delightful handmade gifts for football fans or athletes.

Looking for the perfect gift for a football player or sports enthusiast? What about a small item to add to a gift basket or raffle-off for a team fundraiser? Then look no further. This crochet keychain is so much fun to make a give. And with my free pattern, crocheters of any skill level can quickly create their own football keychain in no time.

They make perfect little gifts for football fans and are a fun way to add sporty style to a set of keys. To use it as a handbag or backpack accessory, you could also add a lobster clasp to make a clip-on charm. You could also make several little footballs and string them together as a garland for Super Bowl party decor. Its uses are only limited by your creativity!

Although it is small, this easy project will allow you to practice different crochet techniques. It’s worked in single crochet and shaped with simple increases and decreases. You will also be changing yarn color to make the white stripes.

But you’re not on your own! My included video tutorial provides step-by-step instructions to help you complete the pattern. So even a beginner can gain the skills and resources needed to design and make your very own football keyring, that you can use to show your loyalty to your team, all year long.

The best thing about this keychain is that it’s easy to customize to make a one-of-a-kind gift. You could make a traditional football as shown here, in dark brown with white stripes. If you’d like to make it NFL style, use more of a reddish brown and leave off the stripes. You could even choose your favorite yarn colors as a memento of your favorite school or football team.

You can also change the size of this crochet football by experimenting with yarn weight and hook size. I used sport-weight yarn and a 3.0 mm crochet hook to make a football that’s 2.25 inches long. But for a bigger football, you could try worsted-weight yarn. You could even use super bulky weight to make a big and cuddly amigurumi football.

However you make them, these footballs make fun and useful gifts for the sports lovers in your life. Now let’s get started with this great crochet pattern!
