Crochet Organizer Bag with Pockets and Zipper - Free Pattern (2024)

This free pattern is for an Organizer Bag with a zipper and standing pockets. This pattern is made using only linked crochet stitches as well as worsted yarn.

Bags are a special category of crochet accessories. You can use them for storage, or simply to style up your outfit. But since you are a crocheter, you likely use them for both. They can be simple, very detailed, or unique.

This Organizer bag is definitely unique in its design and functionality. Once you open the bag you have standing pockets so you can easily reach your storaged items, like hooks, notions, yarn, or even your phone and wallet. That’s pretty cool.

The Organizer Bag was inspired by a quilting bag that uses the flat side pieces of the bag to lay fabric with a small fabric cutting board.

Furthermore, the bag uses linked crochet which makes it very sturdy and prevents any belongings from falling out.

But the Rewind Tape yarn is light and also very sturdy! So win-win! It makes the perfect yarn for this crochet organizer bag pattern.

Furthermore, the gauge for the pieces is not important. The final measurement of each piece is more important, even if you have fewer/more stitches or rows.

It doesn’t matter if you have the same row or stitch numbers. Make sure to measurements are the same to make it fit. It will be 17 x 8.5 inches. A general tutorial for Linked Crochet (ldc) is here. I started with the color Marbles. But feel free to pick a different color.

Ch 31

Next side the pockets to the center, equal distance apart. Stitch markers help her to make sure everything is equally aligned on each side. The pockets are sewn to the bag body and the trapezoid sides using the mattress stitch.

Next, sew on the jacket zipper (get them here) on each side using black thread (if you want to use a zipper) or buttons (if you prefer to use them instead of a zipper). Finally, add or sew the bag handles equally on the outside of the bag (I used hot glue for this stitch to make it more sturdy). You can even sew and/or use hot glue to make it extra sturdy.
